Dash cam installation is a crucial step in improving vehicle safety, fleet visibility, and driving accountability. If you’ve just purchased a dash cam, knowing how to install it properly ensures not only a clean look but also reliable performance. This guide walks you through a step-by-step dash cam installation process using the JimiIoT JC400P as an example.

In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the installation process using the JimiIoT JC400P AI Dash Cam as an example. While vehicle models and fuse box layouts vary, these universal instructions cover more than 90% of installation scenarios.

Tools & Accessories Required

Before we begin, make sure you have the following tools:

  • Multimeter (for detecting power lines)
  • Trim removal tools (for hiding cables)
  • Fuse tap adapters
  • Cable ties or clips
  • JimiIoT JC400P dash cam unit with accessories

What’s in the JC400P Dash Cam Box?

Inside the JimiIoT JC400P package, you’ll typically find:

  • JC400P dash cam main unit
  • Mount base with 3M adhesive
  • Hardwire kit (power bundle)
  • SIM card slot & memory card slot
  • Cable ties and user manual

Step-by-Step Dash Cam Installation Guide

Step 1: Locate the Fuse Box

Open your vehicle’s fuse box and remove the cover.

Step 2: Detect Constant Power (B+)

Use a multimeter to identify a fuse with constant 12V power, even when the ignition is off.

Step 3: Detect ACC Power

Locate a fuse that receives power only when the ignition (ACC) is turned on.

Step 4: Connect the Fuse Taps

Pull out the B+ and ACC fuses, and insert the hardwire kit’s fuse taps into the corresponding slots.

Step 5: Ground Connection

Secure the GND wire to a grounded metal bolt or directly to the battery’s negative terminal.

Step 6: Power On for Test

Temporarily connect the JC400P to verify that the unit powers on and all LEDs light up correctly. Then disconnect to continue.

Step 7: Hide the Wiring

Tuck the power cables behind the car’s trim panels, headliner, or door seals. Use cable ties to keep everything tidy.

Step 8: Clean the Windshield

Wipe the mounting area on the windshield using a dry cloth or alcohol wipe.

Step 9: Mount the Dash Cam

Peel the protective film off the 3M tape and press the camera mount onto the windshield, preferably behind the rearview mirror.

Step 10: Wait and Secure

Firmly press the mount in place and allow it to adhere for at least 2 hours before inserting the dash cam.

Step 11: Insert SIM and Memory Card

Install a valid SIM card and microSD card into the JC400P slots.

Step 12: Adjust Viewing Angle

Attach the camera to the mount and manually adjust it for a clear view of the road ahead.

Step 13: Final Cable Routing

Place the rest of the wiring neatly along the windshield and under the headliner.

Step 14: Verify Power On

Turn on the ignition. The red, green, and blue LEDs should stay solid on the JC400P, indicating proper function.

Step 15: App Setup with Tracksolid

Open the Tracksolid app on your phone, find your registered device, tap the live camera feed, and check the image angle.

Step 16: Feature Test

Test live view, GPS positioning, video preview, and alerts via the app. If everything functions as expected, the setup is complete!
